Fire Resistant Rockwool Sandwich Wall Panel

Glostar’s fire resistant rockwool sandwich wall panel is built for prefabricated steel buildings that demand real fire protection. A non-combustible, high-density rock wool core is bonded between color-coated steel sheets for Class A fire resistance, strong thermal insulation, and outstanding soundproofing — with a finish that rivals aluminum curtain walls at a fraction of the cost. Certified to  CE, and SIRIM standards and shipped worldwide.

Description

The fire resistant rockwool sandwich wall panel is manufactured from rock wool — mineral fibers produced by melting natural rock at high temperature and binding them with an appropriate adhesive. Widely used in factories, workshops, and warehouses, this panel is the standard choice wherever building codes or insurance requirements call for Class A, non-combustible wall construction, along with reliable thermal insulation and acoustic performance. Easy and fast to install, it is a cost-effective alternative to aluminum composite curtain walls while delivering equal or better fire safety.

Rock Wool vs. Slag Wool

Not all mineral wool is created equal. Conventional slag wool has a low acidity coefficient and
high dust content, making it corrosive to metal facings and prone to losing its insulating value
once it absorbs moisture — a common cause of cold bridging. Glostar’s new-model rock wool core
avoids these issues:

Rock Wool (Glostar core)Slag Wool (conventional)
Non-combustible, Class A fireproof performanceHigh dust content, low acidity coefficient — corrosive to metal
Hydrophobic, high ageing resistanceHigh hygroscopicity — absorbs moisture, prone to cold bridging
Strong sound absorption and noise reductionThermal performance declines sharply once wet
Biodegradable and environmentally friendly
High acidity coefficient — minimal corrosion of steel facings

The acidity coefficient — defined as (SiO₂+Al₂O₃)/(CaO+MgO) — is the key indicator of a mineral
wool’s high-temperature viscosity, fiber-forming ability, and solubility. Slag wool typically
measures around 1.1, while true rock wool measures around 1.8. The lower coefficient and higher
CaO/MgO content in slag wool is what makes it corrosive to metal facings, whereas Glostar’s rock
wool core is engineered to protect the steel sheets it’s bonded to.

Why Choose Glostar Rockwool Wall Panels

  • Class A fire resistance: Non-combustible rock wool core with an FRL of up to 240 minutes, suitable for buildings with strict fire-safety requirements.
  • Global certification: Certified by CE (EU) and SIRIM (Malaysia).
  • High bonding strength: Imported high-efficiency, fireproof binder sprayed at up to 600g/m² achieves near 100% bonding rate.
  • Superior bond test results: Bonding strength ≥0.15MPa and stripping property ≥97%, both well above China’s national standard minimums (≥0.06MPa / ≥85%).
  • Enhanced rigidity: 90° rotated, vertically distributed, cross-butted rock wool core strips eliminate gaps and increase panel strength and tear resistance.
  • Consistent flatness: Double crawler production keeps rolls in full plane contact with the steel sheets during curing, ensuring flat panels and a stable bond.
  • Fully customizable: Choose thickness, steel gauge, coating, color, galvanizing type, and profile to match project specifications.

Applications

Glostar fire resistant rockwool sandwich wall panels are widely used in prefabricated steel factories and workshops, warehouses and logistics centers, buildings storing flammable or explosive materials, and any commercial or industrial structure where Class A fire safety, thermal insulation, and sound control are all required in a single wall system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the fire-resistant limit (FRL) of the panel?

Depending on panel structure and thickness, FRL ranges from 30 to 240 minutes. A 100mm full rock wool panel achieves an FRL of 120 minutes.

What certifications does the panel hold?

Glostar rockwool sandwich wall panels are certified by FM (USA), CE (EU), QAI (Canada), and SIRIM (Malaysia).

What’s the difference between rock wool and slag wool panels?

Rock wool has a higher acidity coefficient (around 1.8 vs. 1.1 for slag wool), giving it better hydrophobicity, less corrosive effect on steel facings, and more stable long-term thermal performance.

What thickness options are available?

Standard thicknesses range from 50mm to 200mm, allowing fire resistance and thermal performance to be matched to project requirements.

Do you offer custom colors and lengths?

Yes. Panel length can be produced from 3.5m to 11.8m, and colors are customized to your project’s RAL specification.
