Roof Sandwich Panel Specifications & Selection

The performance of an insulated roof depends on how panels, joints, fixings and finishing details work together. Glostar’s roofing options address different priorities within that complete assembly.

Profiled Surfaces & Joint Detailing

Roof profiles guide rainwater towards the drainage system, while correctly specified overlaps, seals and flashings help protect connections. Side laps, end laps, ridges, eaves and penetrations should be detailed for the selected roof configuration.

Thermal Insulation Across the Roof

An integrated insulation core helps limit heat transfer through the roof. Core selection and thickness should be coordinated with joint continuity, air sealing and condensation control to support the building’s thermal design.

Acoustic Options for Large Enclosed Spaces

Selected rock wool roof sandwich panels use a perforated internal liner to provide sound absorption. This is particularly relevant where the underside of the roof forms part of the room’s acoustic environment.

Factory-Assembled Roofing Components

Metal facings and insulation are assembled before delivery, reducing the number of separate layers handled on site. Coordinating panel lengths and installation sequences with the roof layout helps simplify site planning.

How to Specify Wall Sandwich Panels for Your Project

Start with the roof geometry, support structure and required building performance. Panel thickness alone does not determine whether a roof panel is suitable: profile, metal thickness, fasteners, support spacing and connection details also affect the proposed system.

Specification ItemOptions and Selection Considerations
Insulation corePU/PIR, rock wool and selected glass wool configurations, depending on the product
Panel thicknessSelected rock wool roof models offer thicknesses from 50 to 200 mm; available sizes vary by product
Effective cover width1,000 mm is available on several models; confirm the selected profile before preparing the panel schedule
Metal facingsExternal profiled steel with an internal steel liner; perforated internal facings are available on acoustic models
Surface coatingPE, SMP, HDP and PVDF options, subject to the selected facing specification and exposure conditions
Roof slope and drainageCoordinate roof pitch, drainage length, side laps, end laps, gutters and outlets
Structural requirementsReview purlin spacing, downward loads, wind uplift, fixing details and permitted deflection
Fire and thermal performanceSpecify the required classifications and thermal target, supported by documentation for the proposed configuration
Roof openings and equipmentCoordinate rooflights, ventilation openings, service penetrations, access routes and any PV mounting system
Panel length and deliveryCoordinate cut lengths with roof geometry, transport limits, lifting equipment and site access

Available specifications are product-specific. Request the relevant datasheet and connection details before finalising the roof panel schedule.

Roof Sandwich Panel Applications

Manufacturing Strength for Your Roofing Project

A roofing supplier needs to coordinate more than panel production. Roof geometry, panel lengths, insulation requirements and connection details must come together in a package that can be manufactured, transported and installed as planned. Glostar combines manufacturing scale with building envelope expertise to support contractors, distributors and project owners sourcing insulated roof panels. From product selection to production coordination, we help translate project requirements into a defined roofing supply package.

Automated Production for Coordinated Roof Panel Supply

Automated Production for Coordinated Roof Panel Supply

Glostar operates two smart manufacturing bases in Shandong and Anhui, covering a combined area of 190,000 square metres. Our 15 fully automated sandwich panel production lines provide annual production capacity exceeding 20 million square metres.
For roofing projects, manufacturing coordination starts with the agreed panel specification and schedule. Panel profiles, cut lengths, facing materials and order quantities are reviewed alongside transport and delivery requirements, helping align factory production with the planned installation sequence.

Quality Management & Technical Documentation

Glostar’s quality credentials include ISO 9001, SGS and SIRIM documentation, together with CE marking for applicable products. Our CNAS-accredited laboratory supports testing and quality verification. For a roof panel package, technical review should address the proposed core, facings, panel configuration and connection system. Relevant product documents and applicable test reports can support that review, with certification and testing scope checked against the specified product.

Research & Development Applied to Roof Details

Research & Development Applied to Roof Details

With more than 100 patents, Glostar brings research and development experience to metal building envelope systems. That technical background supports discussions about roofing profiles, insulation configurations, panel joints and internal finishes. Depending on the selected product, the review can include acoustic liners, edge-sealed mineral wool configurations or interfaces with an additional waterproofing layer. Rooflights, penetrations and rooftop equipment should be coordinated with the wider project design.

Experience Across Industrial Project Sectors

Glostar’s clients include Foxconn, FAW, Alibaba, BYD, LG, Volkswagen, Sinopharm and Tsingtao Brewery, spanning electronics, automotive, pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries.
This industrial project experience provides context for procurement requirements such as technical submittals, material schedules and delivery coordination. Relevant building envelope references can support supplier evaluation, while the roof panel specification remains tailored to the requirements of each new project.

Roof Sandwich Panel FAQs

PU and PIR roof panels use rigid foam insulation cores, while rock wool panels use a mineral fibre core. Compare the proposed products against the required thermal performance, fire classification, weight and roof design. Where internal sound absorption is needed, consider a dedicated acoustic configuration rather than selecting by core material alone.

Start with the required thermal performance and then check the proposed panel against the roof’s structural conditions. Core type, metal facing thickness, profile, purlin spacing and design loads all matter. Thickness should be selected using the relevant product data rather than climate or span alone.
The permitted slope depends on the selected roof panel system and its installation details. Roof length, end laps, penetrations and drainage arrangements can affect the requirement. Confirm the minimum slope for the proposed configuration before finalising the roof design.
Depending on the product, roof panels may use profiled overlaps, anti-capillary features and specified sealing details. Weather resistance also depends on correctly installed fasteners, end laps, flashings, ridges and penetrations. Panels and accessories should be detailed as one coordinated roof assembly.
Do not assume that an installed panel roof is suitable for unrestricted access. Construction and maintenance access must follow the approved roof design and the manufacturer’s instructions. Load limits, support positions, walkways and fall protection need to be addressed before access is permitted.
Selected roofing configurations can be assessed for PV applications. The review must cover the mounting method, additional loads, wind uplift, waterproofing interfaces and the load path into the supporting structure. Compatibility should be confirmed for the specific roof and mounting system.
Packaging and loading are arranged according to panel profile, length, quantity and transport method. Discuss shipping limits, surface protection, unloading equipment and site storage before placing the order. Production lead time and the delivery programme are confirmed with the quotation and order schedule.
